Mark Hunt vs Derrick Lewis headlines UFC Fight Night 110 on June 11 at Vector Arena in Auckland.
UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs Hunt is the first promotion in New Zealand in three years. The previous event, UFC Fight Night: Te Huna vs Marquardt was held in 2014. On Thursday the organization announced four bouts on the card. The rest of the program is currently in makes.
On the top of the bill South Auckland born, residing in Sydney, Mark Hunt (12-11-1, 1 NC) is taking on American Derrick Lewis (18-4-0, 1 NC). Earlier this week the latter has announced the bout on Twitter. He has also previously revealed that Hunt is the man he would like to face off in his next bout. The promotion has now formally confirmed the match. The most recent bout of the “Super Samoan” was at UFC 209 on March 4 where he suffered a defeat against Alistair Overeem. “The Black Beast” is riding the six-fight winning streak with the latest bout against Travis Browne in February. Lewis is ranked No 6 while Hunt is ranked No 7 in the heavyweight class.
Also on the card, Dan Kelly (13-1-0) of Australia is going up against Derek Brunson (16-5-0) of the US. The four-time Olympian in Judo out of Melbourne squares off with ranked No 9 in the middleweight class. Prior the official announcement from the UFC, the match was also rumored for the event.
Two new bouts have been announced for UFC Fight Night 110
Brisbane-based American Ben Nguyen (16-6-0) is battling out against his country-fellow Joseph Benavidez (25-4-0). Ranked No 13, Ngyuen is taking on ranked No 1 in the flyweight division. In addition, the UFC newcomer out of Sydney, Ashkan Mokhtarian (13-1-0) is taking on ranked No 11 in the flyweight category John Moraga (16-6-0) of the US.
